City of Kalamazoo

LKF Marketing has worked with the City of Kalamazoo for over four years. The City's website was designed to serve up all content dynamically via a CMS system from an SQL database. The system includes an extensive set of administrative tools which allow multiple users to remotely change page content, post bid opportunities and job postings and to manage an events calendar and business directory.

The site architecture is organized into three categories: Government, Business and Kzoo Life, each serving a unique target audience. Use of other technologies such as Flash and RSS also contributes to a very usable and engaging user interface.

Economic Development Corporation

LKF works with numerous departments within the City of Kalamazoo, mostly on web-related projects. However, in early 2007 we were asked to submit a proposal to the City of Kalamazoo's Economic Development Corporation and the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) for their latest milestone project, Davis Creek Business Park (DCBP). DCBP is on the site of a former petroleum refinery. After five years of cleansing the land with the help of federal and state government municipalities, the BRA was ready to unveil their work.

LKF orchestrated a ribbon cutting for the park which was held in 2008. LKF assisted with the presentation outline, created the script for the speakers, generated a list of potential attendees, produced an invitation, created a PowerPoint presentation to display, and organized the preparation including rentals, parking arrangements, appetizers, tree purchases, etc. To further promote the event, the press was alerted, asked to write stories, and interviews were arranged; stories of the park's transformation were sent to various publications; the City's website was edited to create DCBP's page, feature the story in the news section, create a banner, and include the event in the events calendar; and native seeds were purchased and decorated with cards created by LKF to thank attendees for supporting the park. Visit www.kalamazoocity.org/dcbp for more information.

Public relations efforts resulted in over five stories in various local media outlets. With the ribbon cutting a success, LKF has moved onto other aspects of the project; for example, creating a Purchaser's Manual, DCBP brochure, holding a park launch for developers and stakeholders, etc. LKF has also since been asked to work on other various projects through the City of Kalamazoo's Economic Development Corporation.
